2013 looks like being a busy year for us. The usual increase in pets needing new homes post Christmas has started early, we have several cats and rabbits waiting for foster care. Sadly this happens every year, which seems to reflect the throwaway image pets have now. Whilst we know there are genuine cases on our books, there are also those who need help after being abandoned, sometimes simply because their owners have become bored with them, or they have outgrown their "cuteness". We need to change this way of thinking and make people realise that owning a pet is a major responsibility and should never be an impulse buy. Cute puppies and kittens soon grow into adult animals, rabbits and guinea pigs need care and attention, and owning an animal means a financial commitment. Neutering, vaccinations, microchipping and vet visits need to be taken into account, along with the cost of food, toys, hutches, litter, hay etc.

Like the majority of rescues now, the recession has hit us badly. There has been a decrease in public donations, whilst our costs have risen. This month alone we are looking at vet costs of around £600, before we can home certain animals, plus the ongoing costs of animal food, cat litter, hay, straw and other necessary items, We don't want to increase our adoption fees, so need to cut our costs in other ways. If you can help by making a financial donation, or can donate some food or other items, please contact us.
